• Eritrea is located in the strategic area of the horn of Africa
• As many African countries, Eritrea’s boundaries was created by the European colonizers
• Eritrea was part of the Italian colony for 60 years from 1890 to 1940
• After the 2nd world war the Italians lost the control of Eritrea to the British and the British administered Eritrea until 1950
• After 1950 the British and its US ally supported the Ethiopian ambition of annexing Eritrea with Ethiopia and Eritrea was federated with Ethiopia ignoring the wishes of the Eritrean people for independence to satisfy the US strategic interest in the region.
• After 10 years of the UN sponsored federal arrangement Ethiopia unilaterally annexed Eritrea as one province of Ethiopia
• The Eritrean people peacefully requested their right for independence or at least the federal arrangements to be respected by Ethiopia and its allies but all peaceful attempts were met by force to slice their demand for their right to be respected
• In 1961 Ethiopia Violated the UN arranged federation and officially annexed Eritrea with the blessing of its US ally
• In 1961 Eritreans were forced to start armed struggle for independence
• After 30 years of distractive war the Ethiopian regime lost the war and Eritrea became independent under the leader ship of the Eritrean people’s liberation front (EPLF)
• After 7 years of relative peace the Ethiopian regime declared war against Eritrea 1998 using an excuse of territorial dispute with Eritrea
• After 2 years of destructive war, both countries agreed to settle the so called territorial dispute in the international court and the agreement was signed in Algiers in which the US, EU, UN, AU and the Arab league signed as the guarantors of the final and binding agreement
• In 2000 the international court ruled the disputed territory was indeed Eritrean territory.
• The Ethiopian regime refused to implement the court decision and continued to occupy the Eritrean sovereign land for 16 years of no war no peace to ensure maximum economic damage on Eritrea with the blessing of the US
• The US used its influence and power to put unjust economic sanction against Eritrea since 2010 to assist Ethiopia’s economic war
• Ethiopia continues to threaten of starting a war against Eritreans and Eritreans are living under constant threat of war which also forced the government of Eritrea to continuously prepare for war to defend the hard won independence of the country
• As the result of relentless military and economic war by Ethiopia and its US ally, the Eritrean people are suffering from social, political & economic hardship which triggered the migration of many Eritreans to the western countries
• At this time with all the antagonistic and bully behavior of Ethiopia and the US, Eritrea is making commendable progress in improving Education, health sector of the country.
